Fibromyalgia Association Scotland
Fibromyalgia Association Scotland (FMA Scotland) was started in November 2003 to provide information, advice and support for people with Fibromyalgia throughout Scotland. To work in Partnership with other organisations, voluntary and statutory groups to promote awareness of Fibromyalgia and to advise and assist the establishing of Fibromyalgia Support Groups throughout Scotland.
FMA Scotland is working with FMA UK to ensure our medical professionals understand our condition and that we receive the best possible care and courtesy that is due to any individual. Because FM is an 'invisible' condition does not mean it is not very 'real' to us.
Dealing with pain every day is bad enough, but to cope with irritable bowel syndrome, headaches, dizziness, lack of concentration, Panic attacks, and chronic fatigue as well, makes life hard going.
Daily routine chores such as getting out of bed, having a shower or bath, putting on clothes, preparing a meal can be major tasks that have to be planned to find the easiest way of doing them, can leave the sufferer completely exhausted.
Fibromyalgia is known as the “Hidden Disability” because no one can see the pain that is felt inside. Even close family members find it hard to believe that a person can look so good and yet feel so bad.
Learning all about the illness and talking to other sufferers is the first step in learning to cope. There is no known cure for Fibromyalgia, which is one of the reasons that FMA Scotland continues to campaign for more awareness and more funding for research.
You can become a member of FMA Scotland for an annual membership fee of £6, which entitles you to all membership benefits and also receive a quarterly newsletter sent direct to you.
